7 Apps That Will Save You Money

Phones have become tiny laptop computers and a mobile way to do pretty much anything — like banking. Phones and other mobile devices can also save you some serious money!

Here are 7 easy to use apps that you need to have on your phone:

1. Ibotta

Finally, an app that makes grocery shopping a little more rewarding. Ibotta is connected to 203 stores (including ones you actually shop at). You search the store you plan to go to and unlock certain rewards by completing easy tasks. There’s a few more steps to complete, but you get cash deposited into a your Ibotta account within 48 hours. Every $20, you can redeeom via PayPal or Venmo or opt to receive as a gift card. Definitely an option worth exploring!

2. Upromise

Save for college while moving along in your busy life. Through Upromise, a percentage of the money you spend goes smack toward your future – or your past. From online shopping to booking travel and everything in between, earn cash back into your Upromise account. This account can feed into a college savings plan, used to pay down an eligible student loan, or can be received as a check.

3. eBates

This has been one of my favorite finds. eBates helps you find deals and cash back from over 2,000 stores and specialty boutiques. I bought a Kitchen Aid Mixer for my mom and snagged 6% cash back. Yes, please. I also recently bought a Groupon with another 6% cash back.

Tip: eBates has a great referral program. Ask around to see if anyone else can send you their referral code. You’ll earn bonus points with your friend and you’ll both get a kick back in the form of cash.

4. RetailMeNot

Whenever you are making a purchase online, it is absolutely worth seeking out a discount code. My go-to is RetailMeNot. Just search for the store where you are planning to make your purchase and it will let you know if there are any active codes available.

5. Walmart’s Savings Catcher

This one is so easy, it’s almost ridiculous. Simply scan the barcode at the bottom of your Walmart receipt using the Savings Catcher app or enter the receipt number at savingscatcher.walmart.com. Savings Catcher compares the prices of all the items you bought to the advertised prices found in your local print and online stores. If a lower price is found, the difference is will be returned to you as Saving Catcher Reward Dollars for future Walmart purchases.

6. Purchase Rewards

How about some cash back? Activate your rewards in online banking or within our CommunityAmerica mobile app (under “Offers” on iPhone and “More” on Androids). Be sure to check back often, as offers change all the time! Some of the cash back offers that have popped up at various times: 10% at Houlihans, 5% at Whole Foods, 10% at Dick’s Sporting Goods, 5% at Banana Republic Factory Outlet. This list goes on and on. The cash gets directly placed in your account a full month after the month the purchase was made in (ex. purchase in August, payout in October).

7. Hip2Save

For in-store sales, online price drops, coupons, and legitimate freebies, let someone else do the legwork. One of my personal faves is Hip2Save. Collin and her team update their Facebook page and app with real deals almost hourly.

Not an app, but still worth noting:

Amazon Smile

Donating to your favorite charitable organizations just got easier! This means .05% of your Amazon Smile eligible purchases will go to a cause you believe in. Now that should really make you (Amazon) smile.

Note: You must shop at smile.amazon.com. You may, however, do that from your mobile device.
