Finding Savings for a Summer Refresh

Between the fresh fruits and the fresh cut flowers and the smell of freshly cut grass, it’s no wonder summer is everyone’s favorite season for a refresh. Whether that means a new coat of paint for your house or revisiting your New Year’s resolutions and making mid-year resolutions, there are deals out there to help make your refresh even easier.

When it comes to savvy spending, always follow the deals. There are certain months when it’s better to buy certain things—and you can anticipate and plan for them pretty simply. Here are some of the best summertime savings.

June

For the home: This is the best time to shop for new dishware for the kitchen and tools for the garage.

For you: If the sunshine and good weather inspires you to get back into your fitness goals, June is a great time for you to embrace that motivation! Exercise equipment like treadmills and ellipticals and sports gear hit the deals this month for at-home training; but also check out the deals offered by your local gym, as gym memberships often offer specials around June.

Added bonus: Keep an eye out for great Father’s Day deals on clothes, electronics, home improvement and more.

July

For the home: July is a great time for your big home improvement projects. Sales are typically offered for decks, siding, interior and exterior paints and stains, indoor furniture, and even home décor.

For you: After a successful, fitness-filled June, you may need some new summer outfits. Great news: July is a great time to hunt for bargains on summer clothes.

Added bonus: Most of us know about Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, but did you know there’s also a Black Friday in July? While it doesn’t fall on any particular Friday (or day of the week, even) there are a lot of businesses that participate in mid-year deals. Plus, keep an eye out for Amazon Prime Day, announced early July.

August

For the home: As summer starts to end and you think about fall, it’s pretty good timing to get your patio in order and your warm autumn linens. Linens and patio furniture go on sale at most places this month. Office and storage solutions go on sale too. So if you still have some mess left after my recent article on budget-wise organization, this may be a good time to fill in the gaps!

Added bonus: Don’t miss Tax-Free weekend in Missouri on August 3–5 for savings on supplies as you head back-to-school.

So seize the summer, kick the old stuff to the curb and make room for fresh new stuff!
