Our Philanthropy
We Care for KC
Supporting local nonprofit organizations making an impact in the Kansas City community is an essential part of CommunityAmerica. Our employees receive 16 annual hours of paid time to volunteer with a nonprofit organization of their choosing. We don’t stop there, though. We created the CommunityAmerica Foundation to make a difference with a variety of local nonprofit organizations. Our funding is focused on four key program areas:
- Financial Literacy & Stability
- Education & Reading Literacy
- Health & Wellness
- Strengthening Communities
We’re proud to work with these great nonprofit partners.
Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City
In 2019, CommunityAmerica made the largest gift of support in our organization’s history, pledging $1 million as Presenting Sponsor of a new JA BizTown to serve Kansas City youth. This commitment secured CommunityAmerica’s presence as the personal and business banking center within the simulated town where students will participate in an interactive, real-world experience to help them better grasp the challenges and rewards of adult life.
To commemorate our long-standing partnership, JA-GKC honored CommunityAmerica with its Centennial Award, a one-time recognition celebrating JA’s 100-year history.
Operation Breakthrough
Operation Breakthrough serves some of our community’s most vulnerable children and families. Operation Breakthrough provides a safe, loving and educational environment for children in poverty and empowers their families through advocacy, emergency aid and education.
In 2021, Operation Breakthrough will celebrate its 50th year of service in Kansas City’s urban core. CommunityAmerica CEO Lisa Ginter is serving as an honorary co-chair of the annual Big Dreams Bright Futures event, and we’re proud to be a presenting sponsor. The event will feature “Dinner on the Diamond,” scheduled for June 24 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, MO.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City provide a fun, safe environment for kids on both sides of the state line to learn, play, grow and meet new friends. From sports to education and group activities, the Clubs provide quality programs to thousands of area kids every day. The long-term goal of the Clubs’ programs is to ensure members have the skills to graduate high school and pursue college, vocational training or a career.
In 2020, CommunityAmerica was proud to be a Presenting Sponsor and have CEO Lisa Ginter serve as an honorary co-chair of Kids Night Out, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ largest annual fundraising event. The event set a record of raising more than $2 million — impressive, considering it was the first Kids Night Out event held virtually.
Veterans Community Project
CommunityAmerica is proud to support this project through financial sponsorship and the volunteerism of CommunityAmerica employees. Each tiny-home provides the Veteran with privacy, a sense of security and the ability to reintegrate at a comfortable pace.

Grant & Sponsorship Update
Due to the need to allocate budget to support emergency response in our community to the COVID-19 pandemic, CommunityAmerica and the Foundation made the difficult decision to suspend consideration of new grant and sponsorship applications through 2021. Existing multi-year grants are being honored and some sponsorships are continuing with organizations that we have historically supported. If you have questions, please contact Kathryn Harvel, Executive Director of CommunityAmerica Foundation, at [email protected]. We appreciate your understanding. Please check back toward the end of 2021 for more information on the application process for grants and sponsorships of events in 2022.
