Our Philanthropy
Investing in Our Community
Supporting local nonprofit organizations making an impact in the Kansas City community is an essential part of what we do here at the credit union. Our employees receive 16 annual hours of paid time to volunteer with a nonprofit organization of their choosing. We don’t stop there, though. We created the CommunityAmerica Foundation to make a difference with a variety of local nonprofit organizations. Our funding is focused on four key areas:
Financial Literacy & Stability
Education
Health & Well-Being
Strengthening Communities
We’re proud to work with great nonprofit partners:
Big League Impact
Founded in 2013 by St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, Big League impact is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that reflects the beliefs of family, friends, and supporters that we are all citizens of a global community who ought to care for one another. The charity partners with professional athletes and businesses through unique, sports-related fundraising platforms to help people meet basic human needs like food, clean water, medical care, shelter, and education in an effort save lives, restore dignity, and instill hope.
In 2023, CommunityAmerica was proud to be a presenting sponsor of two fundraising events for Big League Impact in support of their efforts benefitting the St. Louis community. For more information, visit Big League Impact Events.
KCK Community Education, Health and Wellness Center
In September 2023, our CEO, Lisa Ginter, announced a $1 million charitable gift designated for the new Kansas City Kansas Community Education, Health and Wellness Center in downtown Kansas City, Kansas (KCK). In partnership and collaboration with Kansas City Kansas Community College and Swope Health, the Center is purposefully designed to support the needs of people in downtown KCK and eastern Wyandotte County.
This gift was in addition to partner investments in the facility which will allow CommunityAmerica to provide banking services and financial well-being coaching, supporting our goal to grow and expand access to financial resources in our local communities. The KCK Health, Education, and Wellness Center is the largest capital project in downtown Kansas City, KS in several decades.

Junior Achievement of Greater Kansas City
We’ve partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) of Greater Kansas City for over 20 years. In that time, CommunityAmerica employees have devoted more than 45,000 hours of volunteer time to help deliver financial literacy education and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.
In 2019, CommunityAmerica made its first ever seven-figure commitment to a charitable project, pledging $1 million as Presenting Sponsor of JA BizTown. This commitment secured our presence as both the personal and business banking center within the simulated city. JA BizTown opened in 2021 with students from across the metro participating in an interactive, real-world experience to help them better grasp the challenges and rewards of adult life.
To commemorate our long-standing partnership, in 2019 JA-GKC bestowed CommunityAmerica with its Centennial Award, a one-time honor made in celebration of JA’s 100-year history. We were further honored to see CommunityAmerica CEO, Lisa Ginter, awarded the Gold Achievement Award in March 2022 and inducted into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in November 2024.
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City provide a fun, safe environment for kids on both sides of the state line to learn, play, grow and meet new friends. From sports to education and group activities, the Clubs provide quality programs to thousands of area kids every day. The long-term goal of the Clubs’ programs is to ensure members have the skills to graduate high school and pursue college, vocational training or a career.
In 2020, CommunityAmerica was proud to be a Presenting Sponsor and have CEO, Lisa Ginter, serve as an honorary co-chair of Kids Night Out, the Boys & Girls Clubs’ largest annual fundraising event. The event set a record of raising more than $2 million — impressive, considering it was the first Kids Night Out event held virtually.
