Celebrating Fall in Kansas City

Money Management
My favorite time of the year is officially here! Colder weather is upon us, leaves will be changing colors before we know it, and Halloween decorations are popping up all over town. From pumpkin patches to haunted houses to family-friendly events, the fall activities around Kansas City are endless. Here are a few of my favorite places around the city that will help you get in the mood this spooky season.

Pumpkin Pickin’

Is it really fall if you do not visit a pumpkin patch? Lucky for us – there are TONS of options for picking out that perfect pumpkin this year. My personal favorite is Carolyn’s Country Cousins Pumpkin Patch in Liberty, but you can also visit the KC Pumpkin Patch in Olathe, Faulkner’s Ranch in Kansas City, or Pumpkin Valley in Lee’s Summit. These are the perfect spots to create memories with the family and grab some fall themed photos.

If you don’t have time to spend the day at the patch, your local grocery store such as Hy-Vee or Price Chopper will likely have a smaller selection of pumpkins to choose from – but they will still do the trick.

Haunted Houses

While they are not my cup of tea, Kansas City has plenty of haunted houses and attractions that are sure to fill your craving for a nice scare this Halloween – it is spooky season after all! If you have never visited the haunted houses in Downtown Kansas City, you are in for a treat (or trick) this season. Full Moon Productions has a plethora of attractions that are sure to scare even the biggest fright lover – The Beast, The Edge of Hell, Macabre Cinema, Full Moon Escape are not for the faint of heart.

Another Kansas City fall tradition is the transition of Worlds of Fun into Worlds of Fright with the Halloween Haunt taking place Thursdays – Saturdays this fall. The Halloween Haunt is the Midwest’s largest Halloween event that is sure not to disappoint this spooky season with nearly a dozen haunted attractions, 400+ monsters, scary shows, and thrilling rides.

Fall Family Fun

If you are like me and haunted houses and scary attractions are not your thing, check out some of the family-friendly events happening around Kansas City this fall. The Kansas City Zoo presents Hoots & Howls every weekend of October and the celebration ends with Boo at the Zoo on Halloween weekend. These events will feature Halloween-themed activities and entertainment for the whole family with only treats and no tricks involved.

The Louisburg Cider Mill in Louisburg, Kansas, and the Liberty Corn Maze in Liberty, Missouri are other great options for some fall fun perfect for all ages.

Whether you are looking for a scary night out or the perfect place for a family day trip to enjoy the beautiful fall weather – Kansas City has so much to offer this Halloween season.
